Accomplished news broadcaster. Media relations & corporate communications expert

Brian DeRoy is the son of a construction worker who hails from an inner-city public high school where he was the minority.

An Emmy Award-winning anchor/reporter who spent the bulk of a TV news career in a top-25 market, he moved onto drive business results at major names like The Boeing Company and Seattle-Tacoma International Airport, Brian's audience-focused messaging is Relevant, Timely, Unique and Simplified.

Driving business results by focusing on diverse audiences

Leaders tend to be fixated with numbers and performance. Unless the stat is mindblowing, it won't capture an audience. WIFM - "What's In It For Me" is how most audiences think. People engage audiences. We want to know the stories behind the products and programs.

Recently at a global railroad maintenance company, Brian developed an internal communications program from scratch. Using several communications approaches, in two years, the annual employee survey response rate achieved record numbers and Engagement scores reached a record high, increasing by 10%.

Check out this special program aimed at Veterans. Brian created the entire branding, logo, videos and written material.  Link to jobs.loram.com/veterans.

Brian is the son of a Marine, so proud to honor our Veterans:

Success at Seattle-Tacoma Int'l Airport & Boeing
Brian's five years in Seattle drove business results and attracted national media attention at Seattle-Tacoma International Airport and Boeing.

Proactive communication at Sea-Tac Airport attracts media attention

If a government agency is doing a good job, why not tell people about it?

Brian led customer service communications to highlight improvements which gained attention from numerous Seattle and national media, USA TodayQ13 FOX and KUOW radio, among others.

Boeing: Trusted with the top 2 leaders of the company

Brian managed several high-profile projects at Boeing, including airplane flyovers for Seafair and the Boeing Classic Golf tournament.

He was also recruited by different divisions within the company to plan and moderate several webcasts and corporate events. Brian created webcast standards using TV principles of prep, presentation and production values. Prior to Brian, communictors virtually "winged it" on webcasts, not a good idea at a company that builds airplanes.

Special feature: American Airlines and Boeing.com

From the Ice to the Sky:  Meet Al Secord, former pro hockey player who flew an MD 80 and 737 for American Airlines (he retired in 2023). Feature originally on Boeing.com. Here's the video:

What's even more special, Brian grew up watching him play for his favorite team, the NHL's Chicago Blackhawks - an all time favorite story, even after a dozen years in TV news! Great guy to meet in person and as you'll see from the video, a true pro. (Al retired from flying in 2023)

Thanks to American Airlines for making the story happen!  For the record, I miss the shiny silver livery on American planes, the dull grey isn't nearly as great. (they had to do that because some newer models aren't fully aluminum)

Dozen years in TV news – majority in a top-25 market

Writing and storytelling is the basis of Brian's career. In grade school, he hated multiple choice tests but loved writing assignments.

Below is a link to some of his favorite TV news stories. (Yes, we write our own stories) My best memory, covering the 2006 Carolina Hurricanes Stanley Cup win, including live reports in Edmonton, Alberta. A close second is covering Hurricane Katrina aftermath in New Orleans and Mississippi.
