Minneapolis - my hometown like never before

One of the biggest experiences of my life was going to an inner-city public high school where I was by far the minority. Previous grade schooling was at a small Catholic school which was whiter than an ice rink.

Henry High in North Minneapolis taught me that while people may have different backgrounds and interests (let's just say the hockey team wasn't a big thing there) it was fascinating to interact and learn about people and cultures that frankly no kids in the suburbs of Minnesota will ever get to experience.

When the video of George Floyd went "viral" it hit home. The intersection where it happened was four blocks from my (now-late) Grandmother's house. As a kid, Mom and I would take the "5" MTC bus from the northside and go to grandma's house. (mom didn't drive).

While I haven't lived full-time in Minneapolis since the late 90's, it's always "home" as family are there and I return often. Taking pictures two weeks after the incident was a "must-do" during a June visit.

The now-closed intersection has become part tribute site, part healing site and part street party with grills, music t-shirt/food vendors, dancing and even people lounging in full-sized couches. Hopefully these pictures give you a view you don't see on TV news or in the newspapers.
